About Undertone Finder
A free, private way to find your skin undertone from a photo, measured rather than guessed.
Why we built it
Finding your undertone usually means squinting at your wrist veins, holding gold and silver up to your face, or guessing from a quiz. Those tests are useful, but they are subjective and easy to misread in bad light. We wanted a tool that looks at the actual colour of your skin and explains what it finds in plain language.
How it works
Undertone Finder samples your cheeks, forehead and chin, and skips eyes, lips, shine and shadow. It converts those pixels to CIELAB, a colour space designed to match how people see colour. The hue angle points to your undertone (warm, cool, neutral or olive), and the ITA° value gives your skin depth. From there, it suggests clothing colours, makeup shades, metals and foundation undertones that tend to flatter you.
You can read the full method in How it works, or try the undertone quiz as a second opinion.
What we believe
- Private by design. Your photo is analysed in your browser and never uploaded. There are no accounts and nothing to sign up for.
- Free for everyone. No paywall, no app to install.
- Honest about limits. Lighting, cameras and makeup all shift colour. We tell you when a photo looks unreliable and how to take a better one, and we show a confidence score with every result.
- Inclusive. Palettes and advice are tuned for every skin depth, from very fair to very deep.
Who it’s for
Anyone choosing foundation, building a wardrobe, picking hair colour or jewellery, or simply curious about their colouring. Results are styling guidance, not medical or professional advice.
